International collaboration

FAS’ research areas are attracting growing international interest, on both the European and global arenas. For that reason, FAS has developed an international strategy for presenting its visions for future development in the area.

International strategy for FAS 2009–2012.

The most important aims of this work are to:

  • be an active player in European research policy
  • use a range of methods to stimulate Swedish involvement in European and international research partnerships
  • encourage the increased use of European and international research funding to boost national research financing
  • facilitate increased mobility among researchers
  • develop the research infrastructure within FAS’ areas of responsibility
  • increase efforts in the global area through collaboration with other finance providers and targeted investment through partnerships with players in other countries.

The strategy will be implemented through approaches such as:

  • dovetailing research financed by the council with international research and ensuring that it is reported internationally,
  • establishing contact with similar bodies in other countries, working as part of various networks, including European Science Foundation, ERA-NET, NORIA-net and ESF MO FORA,
  • ensuring that issues relating to working life, welfare and social security are given their due space in the EU’s research programmes (read more about the networks FAS is involved in),
  • establishing contact with the operations carried on by specialist EU bodies which involve the council’s area of responsibility,
  • providing increased support for services aimed at aiding international mobility among researchers, including international postdoc,
  • appointing guest researchers for Swedish institutions, and providing overseas grants for longer research appointments at foreign universities,
  • providing support for international symposiums and conferences in Sweden, as well as for drawing up applications for the EU’s framework programme, also known as EU planning grants,
  • providing support for international research infrastructure within the council’s areas of responsibility,
  • publishing an English-language newsletter.

FAS operates an international postdoc programme: the FAS Marie Curie International Postdoc Programme. This is a three-year programme which involves two types of services. For more information and application forms, please visit the programme’s own website: cofas.fas.se.
