FAS announces planning grants for EU projects
On 22 December, 2006, the first calls of EU’s seventh framework programme (FP7) were announced for research, innovation and demonstration. The total framework budget is 50.5 billion euros for a seven year period. For the first time, Social Sciences and Humanities (SSH) has been dedicated a separate research area (Area 8) with a total budget of 610 million euros.
One important goal of FAS is to promote Swedish participation in European and international scientific exchanges. As an integrated part of this promotion, FAS has decided to announce grants for planning applications to EU’s seventh framework programme (FP7). The call is open to researchers (coordinators or leading partners), that want to participate in a competition for EU research grants within FAS’ areas of responsibility (for more information about FAS’ areas of responsibility, please refer to: http://www.fas.se/aboutfas). The grant can only be received once.
The planning grants (including administrative surcharges) can cover costs for:
- coordinator for an application on Cooperative projects, maximum SEK150,000
- leading partner in an application on Cooperative projects, maximum SEK50,000
- coordinator for a Marie Curie network, maximum SEK50,000
- Marie Curie postdoctoral grant (MC IEF, MC IOF) SEK10,000
Submitting an application
Applications may be submitted by researchers that are active at Swedish research institutions. The application consists of an application form, a project description of maximum three A4 pages, and a CV of maximum three A4 pages (the list of references should include information about the five most recent peer-reviewed publications). The project description should clearly indicate:
- which call it is (the id-number of the call)
- project idea (one page)
- other partners in the project (name, position, institution, affiliation and possibly web site). Applications for Marie Curie-postdoc should also include a description of the host institution.
- that the project lies within FAS’ areas of responsibility
- workplan and estimated budget specifying planning work costs
- if financial support is applied for the same purpose from any other funding source
- The application will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- relevance of the project to FAS’ areas of responsibility
- connection to the framework programme and the particular call
- competence of the applicant and, in some cases, ability to lead a project consortium
- added European value of the project
The application should be submitted electronically via eKlara, http://eklara.fas.se. Applications should be registered at least two months before the EU deadline of each particular call. On the same day, a printed and signed hard copy of the application should be posted to FAS, Box 2220, 103 15 Stockholm, Sweden. Applications received by FAS too late will not be taken into consideration.
Processing
Planning grants will be processed and assessed by the FAS secretariat and decisions will be taken by the FAS Secretary General.
Grants will be paid out after the application has been registered with the European Commission.
Results from the assessment made by the European Commission will be sent to FAS.
Please note that a planning grant from FAS does not imply further co-financing of the project from FAS in case of approval from the EU.
