The purpose of funding visiting researchers is to add qualified knowledge and competence to the Swedish research society within FAS’ areas of responsibility. These financial contributions should primarily fund shorter stays (less than six months) for research, consultations, lectures and seminars (also at other institutions than the host institution). Grants for visiting researchers are exclusively for researchers active at non-Swedish research institutions.
Grants for visiting researchers are not given to persons who only need a Swedish base for their own research; who want to develop their competence at a Swedish institution; or persons whose added value would be considered more as additional manpower.
Applications should be written by the Swedish host institution. The grant may finance costs related to salary/remuneration, foreign and domestic travel, as well as accommodation costs in Sweden. The grant may not cover direct research costs.
For more information about FAS’ areas of responsibility, please refer to: www.fas.se/aboutfas.
Submitting an application
For application deadline please go to eKlara's start page. Exception is given to grants smaller than SEK30,000, excluding the administration fee, which can be applied for throughout the year as long as it is submitted three months before the planned visit.
The application should be submitted electronically via eKlara, http://eklara.fas.se. At the same time, a printed and signed hard copy should be posted to FAS, Box 2220, 103 15 Stockholm, Sweden. The hard copy should be signed by the person responsible for the stay of the visiting researcher and by the department head or equivalent at the home institution, thereby guaranteeing sufficient local resources for the visit.
Applications that have not been received by FAS in a signed hard copy version will not be taken into consideration.
Processing
Applications for visiting researcher grants are processed by the FAS secretariat. The evaluation criteria include:
- qualifications of the visiting researcher
- substance and quality of the programme of the visit
- estimated added research value for the host institution.
The processing time is usually about three weeks. Decisions are made by the FAS Secretary-General.
Grants are never given retroactively, which is why the application should be submitted at least three months before the planned visit.
