FAS invites applications for programme grants in the following two areas:
- research on disabilities
- research on international migration and ethnic relations (IMER)
The purpose of programme grants is to reinforce and expand research environments in a long-term perspective. This is a form of basic support intended to enable research groups to address new issues and investigate them over an extended period of time. Programme support will only be granted to established research groups. It is not intended for individual researchers.
Since one of the objectives of programme grants is long-term strengthening of research areas, inclusion of younger researchers in the research group is seen as positive. Applicants must have a viable programme concept and demonstrate familiarity with literature and theories within the area, as well as evidence of good methodological competence. Close collaboration or contacts with prominent researchers, within Sweden and internationally, is valuable. Applications will primarily be assessed on the basis of scientific quality.
Programme grant applications will be invited in the following areas:
Research on disabilities
Research on disabilities can concern factors and processes that turn functional limitations into a disability and the way in which these factors and processes can change. Research designed to promote a better understanding of the functional limitation as well as the importance of compensatory processes, with or without assistive technology, is also included.
Research on disabilities is often inter- or multidisciplinary in its approach and can concern different areas of society and working life, different groups in society and different phases of life. Social science and public health research on disability can bring about improved understanding of the importance of social, economic and cultural factors as well as improved understanding of physical and mental aspects for persons with functional limitations.
Research on international migration and ethnic relations (IMER)
Research on international migration and ethnic relations encompasses a variety of perspectives on society and social relations. Some central concepts include citizenship and rights, identity and respect, discrimination, racism, integration as well as language and culture. The research covers the entire migration process and the increased international mobility resulting from globalisation.
The research area includes both immigration and emigration in the form of voluntary or involuntary movements between other countries and Sweden. Economic, political or social conditions which influence or are influenced by migration in the country of origin or destination are of importance.
Studies of integration into working life and society are also important, for example with reference to young people’s situation, education, work and economic conditions. Research within the area is often inter- or multidisciplinary in nature.
