The call for grant applications regarding the strategic research areas that the Swedish government singled out in its research bill resulted in a joint proposal for funding within the Government's 20 nominated research areas.
Lund University and the Chalmers University of Technology came out best when FAS, the Swedish Energy Agency, Formas, the Swedish Research Council and VINNOVA recommended the allocation of SEK5,270m in research. This investment in strategic areas means an increase in research grants for seats of learning, which will rise to SEK1,315m annually from 2012.
FAS had an advisory role in collaboration with the Swedish Research Council concerning the fields of neuro-science, epidemiology and healthcare science.
